Why people call Keanu Reeves ageless
For years, memes have compared photos of Keanu from the 1990s with recent ones, joking that he never ages. Part of that comes from his consistent look: long dark hair, a beard and simple dark clothing. Another part is his famous fitness for action roles. For the John Wick films he trained intensively in martial arts, firearms handling and driving, well into his late fifties.
Habits fans link to his “agelessness”
- Intense training for action roles, even after 50
- A simple, consistent personal style
- A low-key lifestyle away from Hollywood scandals
- Doing many of his own fight scenes with stunt coordination
Of course, Keanu does age like everyone else, and he jokes about it in interviews. But his on-screen energy at 62 is still remarkable.

Keanu Reeves through the decades
The 1980s: teen roles and a breakthrough at 24
Keanu started out in Canadian TV and theater before moving to Hollywood. In his early twenties he took roles in teen dramas and comedies, and in 1989, at 24, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure made him a household name. His laid-back performance as Ted became so iconic that some people struggled to see him as anything else for a while.
The 1990s: from surfer to sci-fi hero
The 1990s changed everything. At 26 he starred opposite Patrick Swayze in Point Break, and at 29 he led Speed, the hit that turned him into an action star. Then, at 34, The Matrix made him a global icon. In just ten years he went from comedy sidekick to the face of one of the most influential films of the decade.
The 2000s and 2010s: sequels and a second act
In his late thirties he returned for two Matrix sequels released in 2003. The years that followed brought a mix of dramas, romances and smaller films. Then in 2014, at 50, John Wick arrived. Nobody expected a revenge thriller starring a 50-year-old to become a major franchise, but it did, and it introduced Keanu to a whole new generation of fans.
The 2020s: still fighting at nearly 60
In the 2020s Keanu kept going with The Matrix Resurrections at 57 and John Wick: Chapter 4 at 58, a film packed with long, physically demanding fight scenes. He also appeared in voice roles, reunited with Dogstar and wrote comic books. Few actors have stayed this busy and this physical so late in a career.
How old is Keanu Reeves compared with other action stars?
Keanu is part of a group of action heroes who kept working well into their fifties and sixties. Tom Cruise, born in 1962, is about two years older and still does dangerous stunts in the Mission: Impossible films. Liam Neeson, born in 1952, became an action star in his mid-fifties with Taken. Compared with them, Keanu fits right into the “older action hero” trend that has become common in Hollywood.
- Tom Cruise: born July 3, 1962, about 2 years older
- Keanu Reeves: born September 2, 1964
- Jason Statham: born July 26, 1967, about 3 years younger
- Dwayne Johnson: born May 2, 1972, about 8 years younger
Is Keanu Reeves a Baby Boomer or Gen X?
By the Pew Research Center’s definition, Baby Boomers were born from 1946 to 1964, so Keanu, born in September 1964, is technically one of the last Boomers. Many people still describe him as Gen X, because his breakout films and his cultural image, especially Bill & Ted and Point Break, are closely tied to Generation X youth culture. Either way, he sits right on the border between the two generations.
How to work out Keanu Reeves’ age
To calculate his age without the live counter, subtract 1964 from the current year. If today is before September 2, subtract one more year because he hasn’t had his birthday yet. So on September 1, 2026 he was still 61, and on September 2, 2026 he turned 62.

Every one of those birthdays brought a new wave of “Keanu doesn’t age” posts online, usually with side-by-side photos from his twenties.
